Great cartoon! My favorite parts are the kitty and the girlfriend.

Thanks! I'm fond of kitties and girlfriends in general.

Shout out to Charles Schulz and Franklin!

I think science needs to return to the concept of cat butter.

Know what? I'm fond of the word viscous.

It's even better than I imagined!

Posted by: Erin at February 6, 2006 02:10 PM

Oh, yes, I should have mentioned: inspired by a conversation with Erin.

Actually, I think celery would be *too* viscous. Although both celery and peanuts have extremely high viscosity, being solids.

It's so rarely that my cartoons require fact-checking. Perhaps I'll change it to "too stringy".

Posted by: Francis at February 6, 2006 04:41 PM

That wasn't a jif. It was a jpeg. You liar.

Until this moment, I had read that, without too much objection to its incongruousness, as "Celery - insufficiently vicious." Insufficiently "vicious?" I went over it repeatedly, trying to figure out if it was a cute non sequitur, or something about holy celery (to churn it would be sacrilege, or the like), perhaps. It was a "viscous circle!"

It occurs to me that this is a half-assed way to celebrate Black History Month.

Posted by: Charles at February 9, 2006 01:56 AM

Ah, right, Carver was black and it's February, as if the two are limited to each other. Sez me, who thinks black history is yearlong, like all history.

I just assumed Francis was on a six things/peanut butter riff. Like maybe he had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, or Nutter Butters, and got inspired.

(By the way, I thought "Cats - unethical" was a Frist reference, but hey, I'm way political.) (And as for "Cats" the musical -- shudder -- shudder.)

The genesis of this cartoon had absolutely nothing to do with Black History Month, I assure you. I think Erin and I were talking about Cel-Ray when the inspiration came.
