The future is later, maybe

This would be awesome if it worked out -- new episodes of Futurama may be produced and released straight to DVD. Wouldn't it be great if all the cult TV shows started doing this? No worries about ratings or pissing off advertisers -- if people want to buy it, someone will produce it.

Too bad all the "Freaks and Geeks" actors are no longer age-appropriate for their roles.

Yes, that would be awesome. I would buy more episodes of Futurama as long as the animation quality doesn't suffer.

I bought "Freaks and Geeks" without having seen it before and now my girlfriend and I are on the final disc and dreading when it ends. It's such a shame it only got one season.

I'm a little worried about this. Are Groening et al going to be as dedicated to a DTV product or will they end up tainting the franchise?

It's true that the possibility exists for it to suck, but if they pay the writers/animators/actors a decent amount for their labors, one would hope they would give it a corresponding amount of effort. It seems like a potential test case for the question of whether a TV series can bypass TV altogether and still be any good; I'll be curious to see how that works out.

Wow! I just don't see it happening (it's a lot more people and money to deal with than Family Guy) but if they could ... wow!

I never cared for "Futurama". Wake me when they begin straight to DVD production of "Benson: 2005"
