Oh no she di'n't

Oh yes she did:

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton defended staying in the Democratic nominating contests Friday by saying that her husband did not wrap up the nomination until June 1992 and that, “We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California.”

Unbe-fucking-lievable. "I'm staying in this nomination fight because we all know Obama is getting shot to death sometime, probably sooner rather than later." If she thinks that, no wonder Bill is pushing for Hillary to get the veep slot.

No, she really didn't. I just wrote about it over at my Tohu Bohu—it's totally inconceivable that she meant to imply that Barack Obama was likely to be killed, and that therefore she should stay in. What she did say was stupid enough, without adding anything to it.

Thanks,

That entry is here, if anyone wants to read it themselves. It's true I don't think she calculatedly implied that Obama was bullet bait, because surely she could have predicted there would be a backlash to that, but I'm honestly not convinced by the argument that the idea wasn't on her mind. This is, of course, from the perspective of someone who has really come to assume the worst about Hillary after comments like "But I'm winning among white voters!" and other crap like that.

Not to mention, "I'm not going to put my lot in with economists" and "Sen. Obama's support among working, hard-working Americans, white Americans, is weakening again." The woman just won't stop digging.

I don't know. I read somebody saying that if anything, she thinks of herself as RFK, the longshot who in midsummer suddenly swings all the support. Only, you know, not getting shot; the legend goes that he would have won the nomination, united the party, made Abe Ribikoff and Mayor Daley kiss on national television, and ushered in a new age of peace, prosperity, spiritual growth, racial conciliation, environmental stewardship and attractive neckwear. Somehow, I don't think Sen. Clinton could do all that, even if somehow she winds up being the nominee.

The other odd thing about this (and I forgot to mention it in my note) is that it seems, in the video, almost as if she is presenting her ability to remember 1968 as a badge of honor. "I've been around long enough," she says. "We all remember," she says. Oh, right, Barack Obama was seven. I hadn't been born. We get it, you're the old-person candidate. If I were advising her, I might tell her to cool it on the summer-of-love shit, y'know?

Thanks,
-V.

Wait a minute, she said that RFK was black?

Oh. Sorry.
