Away from the numbers

On the train this morning I was sitting within six feet of two people solving sudoku puzzles, as well as a guy wearing a T-shirt with the digits 0-9 scattered all over it. I felt surrounded.

6 feet + 2 people + 1 of you = 9

*gasp*

I have no idea what these puzzles are, and I don't care ... which makes me feel like I'm soon to lose my claim to being savvy.

I was introduced to Sudoku puzzles a couple months ago and the first few were interesting as it was something new and I'm a sucker for logic problems. I've grown bored with them since then but I'm finding them to be an excellent tool in teaching methods in logic and reasoning to my children (ages 7 & 10). To my surprise, my daughter (the 7yr old) is much more interested in them than my son. I can definitely understand your disdain for them based on your appetite for puzzles. On the flip side I do like seeing them catch on in popularity. I prefer seeing people exercising their brain instead of filling it with drivel about what Brad & Angelina did last night or horoscopes.
