Confirming the conventional wisdom that the House of Representatives consists of a bunch of hothead nutcases, Ron Lewis, a Kentucky Representative (no points for guessing which god-awful oppressive party he belongs to) introduced a bill last week in hopes of giving Congress the right to overturn Supreme Court decisions.
Heck, why let the Supreme Court hear cases at all? We'll just have Congress decide. I'm sure a bunch of short-sighted politicians who were afraid of re-election would have made the right decision on Brown v. Board of Education, don't you?
Anyway, it'll never happen, because the bill is so unconstitutional that it would practically explode if it came into contact with a copy of the Constitution, but geez -- are government officials seriously wasting their time on this posturing?
It would be amusing if the bill passed both the House and Senate (it hasn't been introduced in the Senate...and won't be, I suspect), if only because then Congress and the Supreme Court could get into an endless loop. The Supreme Court declares the law unconstitutional; Congress overrides their decision; the Supreme Court declares the override unconstitutional; and so on until the polar icecaps melt and Washington, D.C. is submerged.
