Or, at least, that I never expected to hear uttered, and certainly not by me: "Wow, that Kylie Minogue video was worth the price of the DVD all by itself."
I refer, of course, to the collection of Michel Gondry videos that came out just a little too early to include the all-yarn video that Rose and I are dying to see.
Rose will vouch for me that I did actually say, "I wish they would release a collection of nothing but Spike Jonze videos" months before the Director's Series sets were announced (I wanted to see the "Sabotage" video without having to buy the Beastie Boys DVD set). So given that the entertainment industry is apparently tapping my brain, perhaps they will come through on the other thing I'd like to see: DVD time capsules. Like, I have no interest in seeing an entire season of, say, Mannix. But what about a DVD set with one episode of each show that was on the air during the 1974 TV season?
I mentioned the idea to Daniel, who said he'd like to see it organized by network, with the DVDs set up as one week's prime time schedule, with period ads and teasers intact. That would also be great, as long as you didn't have to watch the same ads over and over again...and how would the networks decide who got which commercials? It's a complicated issue. I'm sure the people reading my thoughts can work out these petty details, though.
